Crystals & Rituals for Grief

Crystals and Rituals to Deal with Grief, Part I

by Eliza Marie Somers

As the nation hit 500,000 deaths because of COVID-19 in February, more and more of us are confronting grief. In the beginning of the pandemic last spring, I recall a medical official stating we will all know someone who will have died from the coronavirus.

Personally, I experienced two deaths to close family members in February, and because I decided not to travel to the East Coast because of the pandemic, grieving has been weird, hard and isolated. Attending services and celebrations via Zoom just doesn’t cut when dealing with grief.

To help me process the grief I discovered some interesting information about grief along with some healing “remedies” that might help you or someone you know who is going through the grieving process.

Grief isn’t an event it’s a process. Some days you will feel great and others you will be despondent. Go with the flow and honor your emotions.

“You may experience brain fog, chaos, anxiety, sadness and emptiness at unpredictable intervals. Physically, one can experience fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, sleep problems, restlessness. Emotionally one may feel frustration, emptiness, anger, loneliness and despair. Cognitively, one can experience memory loss, confusion and a lack of control. Behaviorally, grieving involves dealing with crying, social withdrawal or uncontrolled periods of nervousness and excessive activity.”  From “Getting Hit, Getting Up, Moving Beyond: My Journey Through Brain Injury,” By Joanne Cohen.

Well, that about sums up the tidal wave of grief. So here are some tips and crystals to help you as you navigate the tumultuous waters of grief.

Apache Tears: This is my go-to when someone is going through the loss of a loved one or any other type of loss. This translucent obsidian helps you shed tears. It can also help with forgiveness and emotional balance. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel when you hold a piece up to the light.

Nebula Stone: This dark crystal is good for helping you deal with tragedy.

Garnet: January’s birthstone is great for helping to soothe emotional shocks. Green Fluorite is good for milder cases.

Jade: The green stone known for the heart chakra and good luck also will help promote feelings of peace and tranquility.

Angel Aura Quartz: This is a clear quartz that has been “infused” with precious metals, which stick to the negative ions thus amplifying the clear quartz. Angel Aura will help promote the feeling of being nurtured.

Both For Heaven's Sake locations have these crystals, and more, in stock to help you cope with your grief, sadness, and heartache. If you're not sure what you need, stop and let us guide you to our wide selection of stones. Sometimes, simply holding the right crystal is your answer.
